Windows 7 Issues with win7 sounds sticking

I work for a software company that uses several DOS programs and we sell an alarm monitoring program that is dos based and uses the pc speaker to produce sound. Whenever we use any of the dos programs, ie: the database. the dos mail program, a billing program, etc, any sound generated by the dos program sticks and continues to sound until another sound is generated by an operator. This is really messing with our monitoring program and we need to know how to resolve the issue. We never had this issue until windows 7. Any input will be greatly appreicated.

Have you tried running the programs in Compatibility mode (assuming they have a software interface?)?
