What is a metamorphic virus and how do we protect ourselves from this virus?

I believe you mean polymorphic and it's a virus with an often encrypted payload which also will clone itself and make modifications to it's own code to help avoid detection. Generally speaking these types of viruses can only fool signature based scanners. Many products today can easily detect these types of malware such as Bitdefender or Webroot.
