Microsoft made several Windows announcements at WinHEC 2015 in Shenzhen this week that give developers more insight into the Windows 10 opportunity.

Terry Myerson talked timing and features, announcing that Windows 10 will be available this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages, and showing Windows Hello for the first time. Windows Hello* enables biometric authentication that uses your face, iris or fingerprint to unlock your devices with technology that is significantly safer than traditional passwords.

Microsoft also introduced Windows 10 IoT. Windows IoT General Manager Kevin Dallas explained how Windows 10 IoT will power a range of intelligent, connected IoT devices with a converged platform that offers enterprise-grade security from the device to the cloud, and native connectivity for machine-to-machine and machine-to-cloud scenarios with Azure IoT Services.

Windows 10 IoT will be free for Makers and commercial device builders. Additionally, through partnerships with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Intel, and Qualcomm, we will provide a range of developer boards Makers and device builders can use to bring Windows 10 devices to life.

Finally Don Box talked about advances in Windows 10 to simplify building Windows devices, drivers, and apps in his post Developing for the Windows 10 Device Platform. Windows 10 introduces universal driver support and a range of new tools that make it easier for hardware and software developers to target the full range of Windows devices.
