Windows 7 Movie Maker & AVI Trimming

i have an avi video that i want to trim. but when i use movie maker and trim, i don't see an option to simply re-save it as an avi video. it seems i have to convert it to mp4 or wmv.

anyway to keep it as an avi?

Mainly avi files are from portable devices suck as mobile phones, camraeas and need dependent software to play/use them. However you can use windows to play/use the file but can be a pain as you have found out.

Why not make a duplicate of the file and then convert that to mp3, mp3 or wmv and use that file with movie maker.

I can convert I suppose. I am burning the video onto a DVD to watch on TV. I guess wmv is watchable?
