Hello. I've been experiencing BSOD's within the past 3 months. Even while typing this post for the first time, my computer BSOD'd and I lost the post, so I'll try to make this fast. I've followed the steps on how to ask for help and my RAR file is attached below.

While those DMP files will likely help the most in getting my situation resolved here, I felt I should list abnormalities I've noticed with this computer:

    1. LCD screen seems to show some distortion bars moving up/down (like on an old CRT TV). I don't know why. (IMO 10% BSOD-related)

    2. Constantly hear the USB sound (attach/detach sound) (IMO 80% BSOD-related)

    3. Webcam never seems to work. Dell are experts in making faulty integrated webcams for some reason. I even noticed this problem on another one of my Dell laptops. (IMO 75% BSOD-related)

    4. Even a Dell Factory Image Restore doesn't fix the problem. Weird, huh? You'd think a laptop in factory condition would do the trick.

The crash dumps all blame usbhub.sys,

    1. So there's a chance if I don't use the Kaspersky uninstall tool, and uninstall it via control panel instead, that I may be getting blue screens?

    2. If it's blaming usbhub.sys, what does this have to do with Kaspersky?

    3. I see I need to update those drivers but, how? Those seem to be general links. Are they on those link pages or do I have to use a method to look for them?

    1. Visit your notebook support to get downloads for your model. You can also search Realtek and use Intel Driver Update Utility.
    2. Uninstall Kaspersky because it doesn't work well with old drivers as we have seen many times. Later you can install it back with the latest version. The uninstall tool is recommended to ensure no its tracks are left.
    3. Both usbhub.sys and usbd.sys are MS drivers. They are blamed in your crash dump but not in relation to a particular usb device.

CtClsFlt.sys can actually be part of the Web cam driver package for the Dell Web cam.

Some of those don't seem to have to do with Intel or Realtek...like the first one you gave was Broadcam, then another one later is called Alps. I can see how getting the Intel ones is feasible since there's a link in the link you gave, that searches the Intel drivers for you, but I've typed in the Realtek downloads, that you listed, on Realtek's search (and also its "download" search) and it kept saying no results. Would you happen to know where the downloads are? At least the ones that aren't Intel, since like I said I think Intel can search those for me.

    Realtek:

    Realtek

    Realtek

    Intel:

    Intel

Use Internet Explorer to update with Intel Driver Update Utility, you'll need to confirm its installation.

For the rest visit Dell support, downloads, type in your notebook model exactly ad let it find the updates. Download and install them.

They do, they are drivers for Intel, Realtek, Alps Touchpad, etc. and should be updated if you want your 7 well without BSOD's. Also ensure the RAM settings are right in the BIOS. If you get more crashes attach the latest crash dumps for further analysis.

Like cybercore said you should be able to get all of your computer's drivers at your computer manufacturer's website. You might need to find out exactly which hardware your computer has. Your computer may have an Express Service Code or something similar which will tell them exactly which computer is yours and they will have your components on record. If not you can find out the actual names of your components in "Device Manager".

Start - Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Devices and Printers - Device Manager

There might be instructions about what order they need to be installed in since some depend on others. At any rate it seems like you really need to get updated drivers and install them.

Or you could use the links that Cybercore provided. He posted that last post while I was writing mine.

Note to Cybercore: I'm not trying to butt in buddy. Just trying to offer a little help.

The thing is, though, I'm told things by cyber as if I'm supposed to know how to do them, like with the CPU-Z thing? Am I supposed to download a software that allows me to take a screenshot of my computer info? None of these steps are given, not even in the link on how to provide that info (though ironically it doesn't tell you how).

One of your last posts says I would get these off of the manufacturer's website. Why'd it take you three posts to mention this since it would've helped a lot had you said it the first time, and would make those links unnecessary especially when I don't know how to find the drivers in those sites/links. No offense but "notebook support" how vague can you get. Just say the manufacturer's website. Also, I'm magically supposed to know if the RAM settings are correct in the BIOS right? With my 2 years of conversing with Dell tech support, I've never been given such a rare command especially when the normal computer user isn't a computer specialist.

But thanks nonetheless, to the both of you.

It's assumed that people seeking help aren't complete novices. If you consider yourself a novice, please find someone else that can post instead that we can help instead or send the machine to a repair shop.

If you don't know how to make a screen shot or run CPU-Z, then that means you're a novice and fall into that category.

If you'd like to increase your knowledge to the point we're actually able to help you, then I suggest Google to learn from, in the interim.

I suggested to update drivers I spelled out which, in my 1st post in this thread. Be sure to update Dell web cam:

    CtClsFlt.sys Mon Jun 15 01:06:41 2009

Please clarify to us what USB connections you have - web cam, mouse, etc. all of them. You might have usb plug-and-play devices that this crash dump doesn't even show.

The web cam and the LCD screen. If they are physically worn-out, or perhaps something's with your power supply, or something's got disconnected inside as a result of a drop, then you should send the notebook to the repairs. Unfortunately WinDbg never says that an LCD screen is broken and for sure needs to be replaced, we can't know this. We can't test the hardware for you over distance, we can't see nor feel it, but we can check the software part and likely locate if something's wrong with the hardware.

No, you are only supposed to submit the CPU-Z details - if it is something with your RAM then WinDbg errors matter less, take care of the RAM. This is why we ask you and every thread starter to attach it, CPU-Z 1) MEMORY and 2) SPD. Bad RAM is a very often BSOD causer as we have witnessed many times. Especially that you say you've already dealt with the support for 2 years and your PC is still not fixed.

If you get more blue screens, attach the latest crash dumps .dmp from C:\Windows\Minidump.

TorrentG, not only are you banned but "If you'd like to increase your knowledge to the point we're actually able to help you" makes no sense. If it's so common knowledge to run CPU-Z (as for taking screenshots, PrntScr hurr durr), then surely the experts can give the steps to these common tasks? It would be laziness on their part otherwise, and you're assuming I didn't google this stuff before making the thread? LOL, for future reference, I am the type of person who ALWAYS googles solutions before making threads. It's easier for me (and faster) and only when google results fail do I make a thread.

cyber, thanks. By the way by "check the RAM" I didn't know you only meant to do the CPU-Z thing. Also I wasn't seeing the download link for that software (didn't know it was on the right of that link) so I'll go ahead and install it, and take the shots. What you're saying makes sense though.

    - I did always think the webcam may have become "detached" from the inside, since sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. One time it was actually going on and off repeatedly.

    - As for it getting dropped, it did once drop but did not make a hard impact, and the blue screens were happening before that anyway...

    - This laptop was first actually used in Egypt (but bought in America), so maybe something power-wise may have happened...but the person used the correct adapter (the same one my dad always uses to power on devices from America) but something of course may have happened for all I know.

    - Yeah I was thinking of just sending this over to Dell. I've done that before with another laptop and they fixed it and sent it back since it was still in warranty which by the way, that is one of the laptops I've asked for support from Dell, in those 2 years. I also asked them help for a different (laptop #3) laptop. I have not tried fixing this one I'm typing from two 2 years, since it's 6 months old and still in warranty (and I've only noticed this BSOD issue for two months).

I have the same memory timings as Meteora. How do you set the memory timings?

You set them in bios setup. 'Auto' will do but sometimes you need to adjust them. Stuey, if you have no problems DO NOT change yours. ; )

    Have great holidays.

The memory timings are set correctly. Thank you for attaching the screenshots.

Update drivers as many as Dell support offers for your notebook.
Uninstall Kaspersky if the blue screen crashes persist.
Disable in windows device manager all NON-VITAL usb devices such as webcam, any USB peripherals except the mouse and keyboard.

The drivers I spotted in your crash dump may come under slightly different names at Dell support. For example, "Realtek Network" instead of "Realtek 8136/8168/8169 NDIS 6.20" -- Rt64win7.sys. "Intel GMA" may be listed as "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator". Etc.

Thanks Cyberbuddy. It's good to know that I don't need to mess around in my bios.

For my laptop Dell does offer instructions for the order that the driver updates need to be applied. I'm sure the same is true for Meteora's.

Dell Drivers with Install Directions circled.

Here is the page that it leads to.

Dell - Windows driver install order for desktops and laptops

There is an Express Service Code sticker on the back of the laptop with a Service Tag number. That tells Dell Support exactly which laptop you have.

^Guess I'll then have Dell do it remotely or something, or if it's feasible for me I'll go ahead and do it.

My main goal to be honest is to have this computer problem-free by February, because one of my classes are going to be online and using this computer (w/ out crashes) will be required.

As for non-vital USB devices well I'm going to want this webcam working, because I like to take pics and send it to some people while I site here and type lol :p so I may have to send it to them. I've done it before and it's simple. They actually send you the correct type of box and you put the laptop inside, then they pick it up from your house and send it back a week later.

As for now I'll try to fix this by myself (and call Dell when I'm stuck).
