Windows 7 New 64-bit Win7 build/install - SLOW multitasking

I just built a new gaming system with Windows 7 and all seems to be working well so far for the most part. I'm still installing apps, games, etc.

I have noticed that during installation of games utilizing my bluray drive multitasking comes to a stand still. For example, the 1st disc of a game will be installing and I'll click on Google Chrome (could be anything though) to browse while installing.... Chrome will not open! Then when the disc is finished and asks for disc 2 Chrome will magically open and will work normally during the install. However, if you dare open another app while the disc drive is running the app will not open until the next disc is called for.

Multitasking seems to work perfectly normally during other cases where the disc drive is not in operation.

Ideas?

Yep... installers can be very intense as can reading optical drives. They should be considered a priority task as you don't want file and file system changes during the install.

To optimize Windows performance, try using the Performance troubleshooter to automatically find and fix problems. The Performance troubleshooter checks issues that might slow down your computer's performance, such as how many users are currently logged on to the computer and whether multiple programs are running at the same time.

To make sure you have the most up-to-date troubleshooters from the Windows Online Troubleshooting Service, your computer should be connected to the Internet. For more information, see Troubleshooting in Windows.





Open the Performance troubleshooter by clicking the Start button Link Removed due to 404 Error, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Check for performance issues.


Few Questions:

Is it happening even when you are copying the files to your hard disk and installing from there?

Have you tried to upgrade the drivers ?

have you tried to use a different drive ?

[lang=it]Io ho lo stesso problema, Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit non regge il multitasking come dovrebbe.

Io ho MOBO Asus P5K Premium/WiFi, Intel Core2 DUO, 4GB RAM (4 SIMM DA 1 in dual channel),
scheda grafica NVidia GT8500 (ASUS), 4HD 1TB (2 in RAID1).

Ho scoperto che alla risoluzione di 1280x1024 il multitasking del PC è tremendamente lento.
Ci vogliono 2-3 minuti di attesa ogni volta che si lancia un'applicazione, e con 2 applicazioni aperte il PC diventa
tremendamente lento ed instabile, ed anche quando termina l'accesso al disco, a volte le applicazioni stentano a rispondere.
Le ventole di raffreddamento girano vorticosamente, comunque noto che NON c'è un blocco totale, MA soltanto un
rallentamento estremo della velocità di elaborazione di tutto il sistema. In queste condizioni l'unica cosa che funziona
benissimo è la riproduzione audio che non sembre risentire di malfunzionamenti, il PC sembra bloccato e gli MP3
continuano a suonare alla grande (con WMP)

Se cambio risoluzione grafica a 1024x768 tutto funziona benissimo ed anche gli accessi al disco sono velocissimi,
io ho 4HDd da 1TB e con questa risoluzione grafica sposto file da un disco all'altro con 4 Esplora Risorse
aperti, navigo su internet con 2 browser differenti, ho 2 sezioni di Visual Studio 2010 aperti con 2 mie
applicazioni che girano non complilate e TUTTO FUNZIONA ALLA GRANDE.

CREDO CHE IL PROBLEMA SIA NELLA RISOLUZIONE DELLO SCHERMO.
FINO A 1024x768 VA BENE, MA A 1280x1024 TUTTO VA IN CRASH
