New Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds 22621.891 & 22623.891 Released

Exciting news for all Windows enthusiasts: Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.891 and Build 22623.891 (KB5020040) to the Beta Channel. As always, builds in the Beta Channel are crucial for shaping the final release by introducing new features and polishing existing ones.



### Key Highlights



Build Variations:

- Build 22623.891: New features rolling out.

- Build 22621.891: New features off by default.



For those who were on Build 22622, you will be automatically moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package. This package artificially increments the build number, simplifying the differentiation between devices running the update with features enabled and those with features turned off by default.



Opt-In Features:

Users who wish to experience the new features (from Build 22621.xxxx) can opt into Build 22623.xxx by checking for updates and installing the rolling-out features build.



### What’s New in Build 22623.891



Task Manager Improvements:

1. Process Filtering: You can now filter/search for processes using binary name, PID, or publisher name.

2. Enhanced Theme Support: Task Manager can now use your preferred theme irrespective of the Windows theme.

3. Efficiency Mode Dialog Enhancements: Options to skip the confirmation dialog for Efficiency mode have been included, making it user-friendly.



#### Changes and Improvements



Input:

- Enhanced emoji search for Japanese and Simplified Chinese by properly handling Kana/Kanji and Pinyin.



#### Fixes in Build 22623.891



Taskbar & System Tray:

- Taskbar getting stuck in expanded state when using Quick Settings gesture.

- "Do Not Disturb" icon disappearance.

- Animation consistency for hidden icons flyout.

- Accent color alignment for hidden icons flyout background.

- Resolved multiple explorer.exe crashes.



#### Fixes for Both Build 22621.891 & Build 22623.891



- Backup applicable settings to your Microsoft account, sync across devices.

- Improved localization for folders in File Explorer.

- Fixes for CopyFile function errors.

- Security audits for process creation.

- Printing issues in Microsoft Edge's landscape mode.

- Passive mode issue in Microsoft Defender when not the primary antivirus.

- Added .wcx to Dangerous Extensions list.

- Issues with non-standard characters affecting OOBE account cleanup.

- Windows Firewall service start issues with Override block rules.

- Applications running on Windows Lock Down Policy (WLDP) being affected.



### Known Issues



General:

- Reports of audio issues in recent Beta Channel builds.



Taskbar & System Tray:

- Flashing taskbar during posture transitions.

- Longer transition times to touch-optimized taskbar.



Task Manager:

- Inaccurate publisher name filtering.

- Services not showing after filtering.

- New processes appearing momentarily in filtered list.

- Filter input box issues (delete key and tooltip).

- Theme application issues in dialogs.

- Flashing data content area on theme changes.

- Light and dark mode display issues leading to unreadable text.

- Startup apps page not listing apps for some Insiders.

The Beta Channel previews experiences closer to what will be shipped to general customers. This channel may also preview features before they appear in the Dev Channel.
