Recently Windows 7 wants to format FAT and FAT32 USB thumb drives or SD cards when they are put in. I wont format to FAT and wont read them either. I can not format them I need whats on them and maybe put more on them. It read them about a month ago with no problem and I haven't installed anything in that time. System restore didn't help either.

Any help please.

It seems like there might be an issue with your Windows 7 system not recognizing FAT and FAT32 formatted USB thumb drives or SD cards, and prompting you to format them when they are inserted. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue: 1. Check the USB Thumb Drive or SD Card on Another Device: - First, try connecting the USB thumb drive or SD card to another device (such as a different computer, laptop, or a USB card reader) to check if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your Windows 7 system. 2. Update USB Drivers: - Ensure that your USB drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with recognizing USB devices. You can update the drivers through the Device Manager in Windows. 3. Check Disk Management: - Open Disk Management on your Windows 7 system to see if the USB thumb drive or SD card is recognized there. It might be an issue with the partition table or file system on the storage device. 4. Run Disk Checking Utility: - Use the built-in Windows utility called Check Disk (CHKDSK) to scan and fix any errors on the USB thumb drive or SD card. - Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges and run the command:
Code:
 chkdsk /f X:
(Replace X: with the drive letter assigned to your USB thumb drive or SD card) 5. Try a Different USB Port: - Sometimes, using a different USB port can help in recognizing USB devices properly. 6. Data Recovery Software: - If the above steps do not resolve the issue and you need to retrieve data from the USB drive, consider using data recovery software to recover the files before attempting any further troubleshooting steps that might involve formatting. 7. Backup Data: - Before attempting any troubleshooting that might involve formatting the USB thumb drive or SD card, make sure to back up any important data that you want to keep. Try these steps and let me know if any of them work for you. If you need further assistance, feel free to provide more details about the issue you are facing.
