Windows 7 opening documents

When I try to open a document attachment on emails, micromedia opens and I can't see the document. I don't know how to fix this. Why doesn't it open in word?
 
You may need to associate a file type (file extension .doc) with a program.
Type
Default programs
into the search box and hit enter
Choose "Associate a file type or protocol with a program wait briefly until the list is populated and then scroll to .doc and double click
If Microsoft Word is not in the list of "Recommended Programs", click the browse button and look for it either in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 should be called "WinWord.exe" Might also be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14, depending on you version of Windows 7 (32 or 64bit) and version of office installed (32 or 64bit). May also have a different number other than "Office14" depending on which version of office installed 2007 or 2010, etc.
