Police investigating complaints about a man’s noisy pets found two adult lions being kept in his garden in Romania.
Owner Lorian Galcescu, 45, said: ‘I don’t know what the problem is – they weren’t hurting anyone.’
He said he bought the two Senegalese lions as cubs from a fair that had gone bust - and when they got bigger he had built a cage for them so they would be behind bars.
He said: 'They were getting a bit much to handle to be running around so I locked them up.'
The animals were seized from their cage in Mehedinti after police discovered that the man did not have permission to have the lions in his back garden.
The lions were taken to the Targu Mures zoo and will be kept there while officials decide what to do with them.
