I am running Windows 7 RC 7100; when I play MP3s through Windows Media Player, the audio "skips" about once every 2 seconds. Playing WMAs causes no such problem, and I can play the exact same MP3 through other players (i.e. JetAudio 7) with no skips. Any ideas?

Solution
The issue you are experiencing with audio "skipping" in Windows Media Player when playing MP3 files could be due to various reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Possible Solutions:

  1. Update Audio Drivers:
    • Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date. Outdated or corrupt audio drivers can cause audio playback issues.
    []Change Audio Quality Settings:
    • Adjust the audio quality settings in Windows Media Player. Lowering the audio quality might help in reducing the skips.
    [
    ]Disable Enhancements:
    • Disable audio enhancements in Windows Media Player. Sometimes, these enhancements can cause conflicts leading to audio skipping issues...

    []Change Audio Output Format:
    • Try changing the audio output format in Windows Media Player. This can sometimes resolve compatibility issues causing skipping.
    [
    ]Adjust Buffering Settings:
    • Increase the buffering settings in Windows Media Player. Increasing the buffer size can help in smoother playback.
    []Use a Different Media Player:
    • Since you mentioned that other media players like JetAudio play MP3s without issues, consider using an alternative media player as a workaround.
    [
    ]Update Windows Media Player:
    • If possible, update Windows Media Player to the latest version. Updates often include bug fixes that could resolve playback issues.
    []Check System Resources:
    • Ensure that your system has enough resources (CPU, RAM) available while playing audio. Insufficient resources can lead to audio skipping.
    [
    ]Scan for Malware:
    • Perform a thorough scan for malware on your system. Malware can sometimes interfere with audio playback.
  2. Optimize System Performance:
    • Optimize your system for better performance by closing unnecessary programs running in the background.

      Additional Tips:

      • Codec Issues: Ensure that the MP3 codec is installed properly on your system.
      • File Integrity: Check the integrity of the MP3 files you are trying to play.
Try these steps and see if the issue improves. If the problem persists, please provide more details about your system configuration for further assistance.
