Law enforcement officials say a police impersonator in Florida stuck a fork in his ruse when he started waving an oversized kitchen utensil at motorists.

Police in Pompano Beach say Howard Schultz, 69, forced a driver to pull over on Feb. 21 while waving a 10-inch barbecue fork, NBCMiami.com reports.

"You need to pull over. I'm a police officer," Schultz allegedly told one motorist, whom he actually convinced to stop.

According to UPI.com, it's unclear what Schultz said to the motorist after pulling him over -- but the driver told police he feared for his life while speaking with the fake cop.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies say they encountered the suspect on the roadway pointing his cooking tool at cars.

Schultz was charged with aggravated battery and impersonating a police officer.
