Windows 7 Portable Hard drives

I am a photographer and have thousands of digital photos to store. I have two portable harddrives attached to my Dell laptop with USB connections. I periodicaly unplug the hard drives to make my laptop portable. The problem is when I reattach the hard drives, the one that is normally the E drive, becomes the F drive. This is a problem because I use photoshop to organize my pictures and if the drive comes on as F after I saved the pictures on the E drive, photoshop can't find them. If I keep plugging the drive in and taking it out many times over several days, the problem fixes itself. But how can I keep this from happenning? I tried naming the drive and that did not help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can use 'computer/Disk management' found under admin tools to change the drive letter. I've taken a screenshot so you know what to look for...
