Windows 7 Problem wih sound

I got Windows 7 build 7100 and everything works flawlessly except the sound. When I installed windows 7 everything worked fine I only installed video card drivers but sometimes when I play music it sounds a bit distorted and fuzzy at times. I tried this with multiple speakers and It never happened to me with vista. Also I can't use headphones or my mic for some reason. When I attempt to install my motherboard drivers it says that "Windows NT" isn't supported(I tried running it in compability mode". I have no idea where to try to find my sound drivers. My specs are below:

P5KPL-C Series Motherboard
E7200 Dual Core @2.53
Nvidia 8800GS
2GB DDR2 RAM

Can anyone help me find a solution because windows 7 is awesome and I don't want to go back to vista

Just a note to all posters who are having problems.

In order to troubleshoot your problem we neede to know more detailed specs of your system hardware.

Five choices
1. Go to Start > Run, and type msinfo32
2. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager and look for any entry that has a yellow flag beside it
3. Download |MG| SIW (System Info) 2009.5.12
4. Download |MG| SIV (System Information Viewer) 3.36
5 Please fill out your computers specs in the User Control Panel here on the site as well. It will then appear next to your name. look at my posting and you'll see the drop-down arrow.

You have not listed any details about your souncard

Hey sound in Win7 can be a hastle. If you have any sound card software installed, delete it. Look around for a windows 7 version(doubtful). Creative has some betas out. Regardless at this point it is best to let Win7 control the sound. So, get the 32 bit Vista drivers for your sound. Uninstall all the sound drivers/software. Reboot. Open device manager, windows will install its drivers before you even get it open. Go to your sound. Right click, update, and point it to the location manually where your downloaded files are. After that. Make sure that in your sound settings that your speaker output from your sound card is set as default. Press test button. Do speaker setup and make sure you have it set to your setup.

Thanks for the reply's. All it says for my sound card is VIA VT1708B 8 -Channel High-Definition Audio CODEC. I was unable to find drivers for it anywhere on the net. I posted my full specs below: I used the programs that reghakr reccommended and they say VIA VT1708B 8 or just High-Definition device.

Thanks for the information, exactly what I needed.

First, is this problem occurring through the SPDIF out or all sounds in general?

I've located drivers for that particular card here:

There is no Windows 7 driver, so i suggest you download the 64-bit Vista drivers.

Create a restore point before doing the above in case of any problems.
