Problem with HP 1610 printer

I am on a Toshiba Satellite M500 Laptop, with Win7.
And I have connected the HP PSC 1610 All-In-One Inkjet printer.
All used to work fine.
In particular the printer LCD properly displayed all instructions, menus, and printing progress.

Then I recently installed HP Update Version 5.002.006.003
Now the scan fails.
The scanning window is truncated, and shows error 4,[(3,42,0)]
And the LCD display on the printer is blank.

Any suggestions?
(Or must I contact HP?)

First, like you said, you can contact HP or ask on an HP forum: IT Resource Center forums
What I would do first is install a previous driver and see if the problem goes away.

Are you in 32 or 64 bit windows? I do not see the version you mention under updates.
