Hi
As the title says, I can't map a network drive over internet. I use filezilla as a ftp server and I can access the ftp in firefox but in windows I allways get the "windows can't access" message. I have tried with 2 computers in 2 diffrent locations but with the same result. I have also tried to connect with diffrent credentials but still won't work. Is there anything more I can try? I'm starting to run out of ideas.

I'm writing Link Removed in both windows and firefox (The x is my ip).

Is there any program besides windows (map network drive), you can use too map the ftp site as a drive in the "my computer" location.

It seems like you are facing difficulties mapping a network drive over the internet using the Windows built-in mapping feature. Here are a few troubleshooting steps and alternative methods you can try to access your FTP server:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Firewall Settings: Check the firewall settings on both the client and server machines to ensure that FTP traffic is not blocked.
  • Passive FTP Mode: FileZilla typically uses passive mode for transfers. Ensure your client supports passive mode FTP.
  • Security Software: Temporarily disable any security software (antivirus, firewall) that might interfere with the FTP connection.
  • Correct Address Format: Ensure you are using the correct FTP address...

  • Security Software: Temporarily disable any security software (antivirus, firewall) that might interfere with the FTP connection.
  • Correct Address Format: Ensure you are using the correct FTP address format (ftp://your-ftp-address) when mapping the network drive in Windows Explorer.

Alternative Methods:

  • Use FTP Client Software:
  • You can use FTP client software like FileZilla or WinSCP to connect to your FTP server. These offer more features and detailed error messages for troubleshooting. [*WebDAV Mapping:
  • Consider mapping the FTP server as a WebDAV folder instead. This might provide a more seamless integration into Windows Explorer. [*Using a Third-Party Tool:
  • There are third-party tools like NetDrive or Swish that allow you to mount an FTP server as a drive on your computer.

How to Map an FTP server using WinSCP:

[Download and install WinSCP (https://winscp.net/eng/download.php). [Open WinSCP and configure a new session with your FTP server details. [Once connected, go to Commands > Open Directory.... [In the dialog box, choose the option Open directory as session in PuTTY. [In the PuTTY window that appears, select Favorites > Add a Synchronization Task. [Configure your synchronization settings and save them.
  • This will create a mapping to your FTP server which you can access through WinSCP. You can also explore other FTP client options or consider WebDAV mapping for a smoother integration into Windows Explorer.
