Windows Vista programs open and close instantly

hi, so I have a problem which has my windows sound recorder and now also my system restore programs. When I open the programs both will open and then instantly close, any ideas as to whats causing this? here is my log made up by hijack this:

Hi, if you have your installation disk why not try the repair function? Or you could try googling for the missing files. My only other option was to suggest system restore but as this closes instantly your going to struggle with that one.

look into running it from the cmd prompt, not dbl clicking the icon. Netstat is another example of this
