My computer has two Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB hard drives configured in Raid 0. As the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard begins to POST both hard drives are shown on the POST screen but one of the two hard drives is in red letters with the message "Error Occurred (0)". Windows 7 has on one occasion had trouble booting but otherwise seems to boot normally. I knew just enough to configure the BIOS in Raid 0 and to install Windows 7. The above Error Message is seen with each boot since it started three days ago.

I made a physical inspection of the hard drives and their power and SATA connections. All connections were secure.

Can someone give advice and assistance in how run down a problem in Raid 0 without screwing up the Windows7 OS and its files.

Solution
It looks like you're experiencing an issue with one of your RAID 0 configured hard drives showing an error during the POST process. The error "Error Occurred (0)" typically indicates a problem with the RAID configuration, possibly due to a drive failure or data corruption within the RAID setup. Here's a general guide on how you can troubleshoot the RAID 0 issue without risking your Windows 7 OS and its files:

Steps to Troubleshoot RAID 0 Issue:

  1. Backup Important Data: Before proceeding with any troubleshooting steps, it's crucial to back up your important data. Data loss can occur in RAID 0 setups if a drive fails or the RAID becomes corrupt.
  2. Check RAID Configuration in BIOS:

Here's a general guide on how you can troubleshoot the RAID 0 issue without risking your Windows 7 OS and its files:

Steps to Troubleshoot RAID 0 Issue:

  1. Backup Important Data: Before proceeding with any troubleshooting steps, it's crucial to back up your important data. Data loss can occur in RAID 0 setups if a drive fails or the RAID becomes corrupt.
  2. Check RAID Configuration in BIOS:
    • Enter the BIOS settings during the computer startup (usually by pressing a key like Del or F2).
    • Verify the RAID configuration settings. Ensure that both hard drives are detected correctly and that the RAID 0 settings are intact.
  3. Investigate RAID Health:
    • Check the RAID management utility provided by your motherboard manufacturer. This utility can help diagnose the health of the RAID setup and the hard drives.
    • Look for any warnings or errors related to the RAID array or the individual hard drives.
  4. Test the Hard Drives:
    • Use diagnostic tools provided by the hard drive manufacturer (Western Digital in this case) to test the health of the individual drives.
    • Look for SMART errors or any indications of drive failure.
  5. Rebuild RAID Array:
    • If one of the drives is failing, you may need to rebuild the RAID array using a new drive. Refer to your motherboard manual for instructions on how to rebuild the RAID without losing data.
  6. Update Drivers and Firmware:
    • Ensure that you have the latest drivers and firmware updates for your motherboard and hard drives. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause RAID issues.
  7. Seek Professional Help:
    • If you are not confident in troubleshooting RAID configurations, consider seeking help from a professional technician who has experience with RAID setups.

      Important Note:

    • RAID 0: Remember that RAID 0 offers no data redundancy. If one drive fails in a RAID 0 configuration, all data is typically lost. This is why it's essential to have backups of your important data. By following these steps, you can diagnose and potentially resolve the RAID 0 error without affecting your Windows 7 installation. If you encounter difficulties during the process, feel free to ask for further assistance or clarification.
