Hope someone can help with this. I've put together a media center using a Gateway DX4720-03 running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but I am having trouble getting the IR remote control, a RC6 model, to work. The USB IR receiver is recognized by Windows when I plug it in, and the correct driver seems to be found and installed under device manager (eHome Infrared Receiver under USB devices). However, there is no response when I press any of the buttons e.g. the green Media Center button, volume control, etc. The LED on the remote lights up, as does the one on the receiver signifying it is receiving properly, but nothing else happens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device as well as updating Windows. The remote works fine with my Dell Inspiron laptop, which also runs Windows 7 64-bit. Any ideas?

It seems like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already. Test Remote Control Signals: - You can use software to check if the IR receiver is properly receiving signals from the remote control. - Some third-party applications and tools can help you test the functionality of the remote control and IR receiver. 3. Confirm Driver Compatibility: - Sometimes, even though Windows installs a driver, it may not be the most compatible one. - Check the manufacturer's website for the IR receiver or remote control to see if there are specific drivers for Windows 7 that are recommended. 4. Update or Roll Back Driver: - Even though the driver seems to be correct according to Device Manager, it may be worth updating or rolling back the driver to see if that resolves the issue. 5. Check for Interference: - Make sure there are no obstructions between the remote control and the IR receiver that could be causing interference with the signal. 6. Replace Batteries: - Ensure that the batteries in the remote control are fresh and properly seated. 7. Run Hardware Troubleshooter: - Use the built-in Windows Hardware Troubleshooter to see if it can identify and fix any issues with the IR receiver. 8. Check for Software Conflicts: - Sometimes, other software or settings on your computer can interfere with the functionality of the remote control. Try closing unnecessary applications or services to see if that makes a difference. 9. Test in Safe Mode: - Boot your computer into Safe Mode and see if the remote control works there. This can help identify if a third-party application is causing the issue. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with your IR remote control on your Windows 7 media center setup.
