I am having that painfull issue with RDP protocol error when shadowing another user in Terminal services. On my old laptop I simply followed the guide to swap the old Vista mstsc etc and all worked well.

Last week I upgraded my laptop and it has Win 7 64 bit and the fix doesnt work. Have any of you found a fix for 64 bit? Do I need Vista 64 bit files as well?

Any idea where I might find these now?

Heeelllllppppppppppppppp.......

Still surprised MS havn't released a fix for this yet.....

Solution
It seems you're encountering difficulties with the RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) error when shadowing another user in Terminal Services on your Windows 7 64-bit system. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Steps to Resolve RDP Protocol Error:

  1. Registering the mstscax.dll file:
    • Open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    • Enter the following command and press Enter: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mstscax.dll
    []Check Remote Desktop Settings:
    • Go to the Control Panel and open "System and Security."
    • Click on "System" and then select "Remote settings" from the left pane.
    • Ensure that "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer" is enabled.

    ]Update Remote Desktop Client:
    • Ensure you have the latest Remote Desktop Client installed on your Windows 7 system. You can download the latest version from the Microsoft website. If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to explore further options based on the specific error message you are receiving during the shadowing process.

      Finding Vista 64-bit Files:

If you believe that using Vista 64-bit files might help, you can try locating them on reputable software or tech support websites. However, mixing operating system files may not always be advisable and could lead to system instability.

      Microsoft Updates:

While Microsoft may not have released a specific fix for this issue, keeping your system up to date with the latest Windows updates can often resolve compatibility issues. Ensure that your Windows 7 system is fully updated with the latest patches. If you encounter any specific error messages or need further assistance, feel free to provide more details, and I'll be happy to help you troubleshoot this issue further.
