Windows 7 Screen Flickering for some Games

This problem has been persistent and has made many of my games unplayable. Some games like Worms, City of Heroes, and BIT.TRIP RUNNER flicker on my laptop, but it can also run more graphics heavy games like Battlefield 2 or Half Life 2. Adjusting resolution and vsync does nothing and my graphics driver is up to date. What should I do?

Since this is a different computer than what I normally use, here are the specs:

2 GB DDR2 RAM
136 GB HDD
ATI Radeon X1200 series video card
AMD Turion 64 Dual Core Processor at 1.9 GHz

The GPU is very weak (often a problem with most laptops) unfortunately, even games from 5-6 years ago will struggle to play in low settings so the best solution would be to buy a newer one with a better GPU. As Kaos said, there's also the issue of compatibility under Windows 7, older laptops and pc will have less support for drivers for the older hardware, much as I hate it, XP would likely be the optimal OS for that laptop.
