Hello people first post here, nice to meet you all. Anywho I have been contacting a relative of mine who I recently persuaded to upgrade to Windows 10 and he seems to like it, but he has a slight issue. Upon trying to access his personal files/user files, he continues to get a warning message stating that "these files may be dangerous to open". We can get past this issue by clicking okay but it can get annoying after a while.

Does anybody know why this is happening since the update or how to stop it all together?

Cheers

LC

Can you provide a screenshot and/or be more specific on what type of files generate this message?

This is a common problem. :andwhat: As many people who decide to upgrade their computers to W10 often don't have computers that are running properly (freeze, hangs, crashes, lagging) or have popups, E-mail spam, etc. PRIOR to the upgrade. Home users mistakenly have the idea that upgrading to the newest version of windows is a panacea for all the things wrong with their computers over the last several years they have owned them! This is completely the opposite; a poorly running computer or a computer that hasn't been professional serviced by a licensed Technician becomes WORSE after the upgrade, since the requirements for running the new version of windows are often more stringent than they are on older computers.

Given that information, it's quite likely that the computer was infected by viruses/malware and the upgrade simply exacerbated the problem (made it worse).:ohno:How sure are you that your friend's computer is virus-free? Did you personally scan his computer with AV software, or did he just tell you it's clean? Don't believe him!:noway: Scan the computer yourself with his currently running AV software, and remove all found viruses. Repeat the scan use the Bootime Option, which scans all files on startup outside of windows upon system restart. Remove all found viruses in the Bootime Option. Next, go to Malwarebytes.com and download the free MALWAREBYTES antispyware virus program. Remove all found spyware viruses. Malwarebytes will find many spyware viruses than standard AV programs such as Windows Defender, Norton, Avast, McAfee won't find. Finally, go to trendmicro.com and download the free Rootkit Buster and run that in Safe Mode. Rootkits and Bootkits are classes of viruses not found in AV or AS programs and hide in the hidden parts of the hard drive. You can have one of these viruses and never get rid of it until you completely erase the hard drive or physically replace it. After performing all these scans and virus cleanup it should take care of his problem!

If it doesn't, you still have some other options. Before proceeding, you should make certain that your friend has all of his Personal Data (Library folders) backed up to External Media before going any further!!
At this point, since your friend successfully upgraded to W10, I would suggest you or he do a W10 CLEAN INSTALL, and that does wipe the hard drive clean including any nasty viruses that you weren't able to remove with scanning techniques. To do this, you'll need to visit the Microsoft site and download the latest ISO file which will create bootable W10 media on DVD or USB using the Microsoft MCT (Media Creation Tool). Here's the link to find this: Windows 10
Doing a Clean Install in this fashion will take care of 98% of the problems your friend has or might have due to a disinfectant-resistant virus(s).

Let us know how it goes,
Best of luck,:encouragement:
