Windows 7 Sound Capture

I sometimes use an application called Total Recorder. I've used it on my system with Windows XP and it worked great. However, when I swapped to Windows 7, I lost the ability to record. No hardware changes, nothing. I can no longer get the Windows sound recorder to record from a stream or Total Recorder to work.
Any ideas?
