Check the Windows Audio Service. If this service is stopped, your sound card will not function. Start the service and make sure the service's startup type is set to automatic. Once you start the service, check the Sounds applet in control panel and see if you can play sounds. If the Windows Audio service does not start or it is already running, try uninstalling your sound card and restarting your machine. Your sound card should reinstall automatically. If it does not, download the latest drivers from the manufacturer and install the sound card manually.
