I have a Dovo "Best Quality" straight razor, made in Solingen, Germany, which is reknown to be where the best razors are made. I bought it used on eBay, but it looked as good as new when I got it. For various reasons, I've never used it and it sat on top of the vanity cabinet for the last year.
I was quite surprised when I opened it a bit ago, and found the blade covered in rust. I know that stainless can pit, but it shouldn't ever rust. This leaves me wondering if I just got a knockoff, or if there is some type of stainless that is less stainless than others/

Link RemovedChecking further, I think I may have been wrong about it being SS. Everything I've found Googling of that type is carbon steel, and I don't find the blade being marked as SS. The only question now is how to best clean it up, without having to send it off to a razor shop?
