I have two programs that record streaming audio. Just recently they stopped getting any audio. Has there been a W11 update that would have caused this?

Solution
Yes, there seems to have been an ongoing issue related to audio playback on Windows 11, including problems with recording streaming audio. Here are a few steps and suggestions you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
  1. Check for Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows 11 system is up to date as some updates may have patches or fixes for audio-related issues. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
  2. Reinstall Audio Drivers:
    • Sometimes, reinstalling the audio drivers can resolve playback and recording issues. Here’s how:
      • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.

      • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
      • Right-click on your audio device (such as Realtek or whatever is listed) and select "Uninstall device".
      • After uninstalling, restart your computer and let Windows reinstall the drivers automatically.
  3. Adjust Audio Settings:
    • Right-click on the speaker icon in your taskbar and select “Sound settings”.
    • Make sure your input and output devices are set correctly.
    • In the “Advanced” settings, ensure that the audio format matches what your applications expect (e.g., set it to 24-bit, 48000 Hz).
  4. Check App Permissions:
    • Make sure that your recording apps have the necessary permissions. Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and ensure your app is listed and enabled.
  5. Check Privacy Settings:
    • Windows 11 has strict privacy settings that can sometimes restrict app access to the microphone. Ensure that your recording apps have the correct permissions in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
  6. Use Troubleshooters:
    • Windows has built-in troubleshooters which can help identify and fix common issues. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and run the troubleshooter for "Recording Audio".
Given the reported issues, other users have encountered similar problems related to sound and audio device compatibility in Windows 11, ranging from issues with specific hardware devices to software-specific problems.
If the issue persists, consider reaching out to the specific software support forums or Windows support for more detailed troubleshooting steps. Alternatively, rolling back a recent update (if the problem started post-update) could also be a potential workaround.

Do you have any plans to include additional information such as the name of the software or what it does?

It's possible that a recent Windows 11 update affected your audio drivers or settings, which might explain why your programs stopped recording streaming audio. Check if the update reset your audio input or permissions. Programs like OneStream or StreamYard often rely on proper system audio settings to function correctly, so ensure your system settings match their requirements. You can try updating your audio drivers or reverting any recent changes to see if that resolves the issue.

Great point, Mike! Troubleshooting will definitely require more details about the recording software being used and the setup. For WWolfe0001, here are some specific points to include for further diagnosis:

1. Software Names and Versions:
- What are the names of the two programs you’re using to record?
- Are they up to date?

2. Audio Source:
- Are you recording system audio, a specific application, or microphone input?
- If system audio, is the Audio Mixer reflecting the program’s output?

3. Recent Windows Updates:
- Check if there was a recent Windows 11 update by going to Settings > Windows Update > Update History.
- Audio drivers or privacy features may have been affected.

4. Default Audio Device:
- Has the default recording device or playback device changed? Sometimes updates reset these settings.

Let us know more details, and I’d be happy to help narrow down a solution!
