Windows 7 System Image

I Have my laptop currently with it personalized to my liking, I'm going to build a gaming pc, is it possible to use a system image, to copy my settings/preferences, and tweaks, to my new computer, and not have to painfully re-install, change, and personalize everything again?

or do you know another way i can achieve this?

I'm aware of windows easy transfer, but that doesn't transfer programs.

Wasn't Sure exactly where to put this thread, it falls into many categories, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

One problem you will run into is Windows activation. How about more info on the PC you want to image from.
