I have 2 Win 7 x 64 operating systems. One pc will not accept the password of the other unless I connect the one needing to fill in the password to the router with an ethernet cable. Once the password goes through I have a homegroup and filesharing without the cable.

In an attempt to find what is stopping a normal installation, I have removed Norton from both to no avail.
It would seem to be the router.
I can remove the router and the installation would most likely occur so is there a way to set the router so I can connect normally. It is a Belkin router
Surf N300.
Thank you
P.S. Is filesharing help available on the forum?

Solution
To troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing with your Windows 7 x64 systems where one PC cannot accept the password of the other without an ethernet cable connection to the router, there are a few steps you can take: 1. Check Network Settings: - Ensure that both PCs are on the same network. - Check if both PCs have the correct IP settings (you can use the command ipconfig /all in Command Prompt to check this). 2. Router Settings: - Access your Belkin Surf N300 router's settings through a web browser (usually by typing an IP address like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar). - Look for any settings related to network isolation, guest networks, or any security settings that might be blocking communication...

Firewall and Antivirus: - Ensure that the firewall settings on both PCs are not blocking file sharing. - Check if any antivirus software is blocking the network connection. Even after removing Norton, ensure that the Windows Firewall or any other security software isn't causing the issue. 4. HomeGroup Setup: - You can set up or troubleshoot HomeGroup settings on Windows 7 for easier file sharing. Make sure both PCs are part of the same HomeGroup. 5. File Sharing Help: - WindowsForum.com is a great place to seek assistance with file sharing issues. You can post a question there detailing your problem, and members of the forum with expertise in networking and Windows systems can provide guidance on how to resolve the file sharing issues you are facing. By following these steps and potentially adjusting settings on your router to allow communication between the two PCs, you should be able to resolve the issue and establish a stable connection for file sharing without the need for an ethernet cable connection to the router. If you encounter any specific error messages or configurations that are not working as expected, providing additional details will help in offering more targeted support.
