Solution
When encountering freezing issues with a hard drive that was previously encrypted with BitLocker on Windows 7, it's crucial to ensure that the drive is not causing conflicts with the new installation of Windows. Here's a step-by-step guide on how you can potentially recover files from the hard drive:

Step 1: Ensure Compatibility and Connectivity

  1. Ensure Proper Connectivity: Make sure the hard drive is correctly connected to the system without any loose connections or faults in the cables.
  2. Check Compatibility: Verify that the hard drive is compatible with the system and the version of Windows 7 you have installed.

Step 2: Use BitLocker Recovery Key

Here's a step-by-step guide on how you can potentially recover files from the hard drive:

Step 1: Ensure Compatibility and Connectivity

  1. Ensure Proper Connectivity: Make sure the hard drive is correctly connected to the system without any loose connections or faults in the cables.
  2. Check Compatibility: Verify that the hard drive is compatible with the system and the version of Windows 7 you have installed.

Step 2: Use BitLocker Recovery Key

  3. Recover BitLocker Key: If you have the BitLocker recovery key saved during encryption, use it to unlock the drive.
  4. Unlock the Drive: Boot into a Windows 7 installation with the encrypted drive connected and enter the recovery key to unlock the drive.

    Step 3: Access Files

  5. Backup Important Data: Copy the important files from the decrypted drive to a different storage location to ensure you have a backup.
  6. Use Data Recovery Software: If the drive is still inaccessible, consider using data recovery software to recover lost or inaccessible files.

    Step 4: Resolve Freezing Issues

  7. Test Another System: Try connecting the hard drive to another system to see if it still causes freezing issues.
  8. Update Drivers: Ensure that all necessary drivers, especially for storage devices, are up to date on your Windows 7 system.
  9. Scan for Malware: Run a thorough antivirus scan to ensure the freezing isn't caused by malware or malicious software.

    Step 5: Seek Professional Help

If the freezing issue persists or you encounter difficulties during the recovery process, it might be best to seek assistance from a professional data recovery service. Given the freezing issues you're facing, it's crucial to address them before attempting data recovery to prevent any further damage to the hard drive or potential data loss. It's important to keep in mind that recovering data from a BitLocker-encrypted drive can be complex, especially when encountering freezing problems. If you have any backups of your important files, those should be the priority to avoid data loss. Feel free to provide more information if you need further assistance or encounter specific errors during the recovery process.
