When I attempt to check for updates, I receive the following error message: "An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer. Error(s) found: Code 8024402F Windows encountered an unknown error." When I click on "Get help with this error" a window pops up with "0 results for "WindowsUpdate_8024402F" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"." Any ideas as to what to what the problem could be? I'm running BitDefender 2008, but even when it's disabled I still receive the error. I've also got Internet Explorer automatically detecting my LAN settings. Thanks! UPDATE - FIXED! It seems as if Windows Firewall was blocking a security certificate that originated from Vista. Simply disable your Windows Firewall (and BitDefender in my case too) and it should fix the problem. Such a simply solution but I didn't think Windows Firewall would conflict with Windows Update...silly me!
