Hello, I would just like to know if it is possible for two PC's each on a different wan ip, and both running windows 7, to connect to the same homegroup, or if they must both be on a LAN.
Hello, I would just like to know if it is possible for two PC's each on a different wan ip, and both running windows 7, to connect to the same homegroup, or if they must both be on a LAN.
After doing a fair amount of checking around, it appears that homegroup member machines must be on the same subnet. So it would appear that without a pretty complex router to router vpn solution involving some double natting and equipment at both ends, and a provider that supported IPv6 encapsulation (IPv6 mandatory for HomeGroups) it looks like the short answer is no. Good question though and maybe someone else will have more information
