    I have a laptop with a GeForce 9800m GS.
I'm using a VGA cable to connect it to my HDTV.
The problem is that I can't choose the resolution I want wich is 1280 x 720.
I can only choose 4:3 resolutions.
it sets the tv to 1024 x 768.
    I'm using win xp SP3

Maybe enable manage custom res. ? I have not found anything like that.

my laptop is running on 1920 x 1200.

My older computer where I used Hdmi without any problem had an older graphics card(8600m GS)
