All of a sudden, I have not been able to use my USB memory stick in my computer. It is a SANDISK Titanium 2GB. I have tried other memory sticks with no luck either. I am unable to format, access or do anything to any memory stick. Any suggestions? Other devices are working fine in my USB ports. I am using VISTA Home Premium 32 Bit.

Solution
It seems like there might be an issue with the USB ports or drivers on your computer that is preventing you from using any memory sticks. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check USB Ports:
    • Ensure that the USB ports are not physically damaged. Try plugging the memory stick into different USB ports on your computer to see if the issue persists.
    []Update USB Drivers:
    • Outdated or corrupt USB drivers can cause connectivity issues. Try updating the USB drivers on your computer.

    ]Check Device Manager:
    • Go to Device Manager (Right-click on "Computer" -> "Manage" -> "Device Manager") and check if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to USB devices. This indicates driver issues.
    []Power Management:
    • Sometimes, power management settings can disable USB devices. In Device Manager, right-click on USB Root Hub -> Properties -> Power Management, and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
    [
    ]Check for Viruses:
    • Run a full system scan with an updated antivirus program to ensure there are no malware or viruses affecting your system.
    []Test in Safe Mode:
    • Boot your computer into Safe Mode and test the memory stick. This helps determine if a third-party software is causing the issue.
    [
    ]Reset USB Controllers:
    • You can reset the USB controllers by unplugging the power cord, removing the battery (if it's a laptop), and holding the power button for about 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and test the memory stick.
    []System File Checker:
    • Run the System File Checker tool to scan and repair corrupted system files that might be affecting the USB functionality.
    [
    ]Registry Fix:
    • Be cautious with this method as modifying the registry can cause system issues. Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies" in the Registry Editor and check if the "WriteProtect" value is set to 0. If it's not, change it to 0.

      Update Regarding Vista:

Since you are using Windows Vista, ensure that all the recent updates and service packs are installed. Microsoft ended support for Windows Vista in 2017, so using an unsupported operating system can pose security risks. Try these steps and let me know if any of them help resolve the issue with your USB memory sticks on your computer.
