Windows Vista weird happenings

hey its me again um im having some trouble my when i turned my computer on today everything loaded but many programs did not open and my desktop background was not displayed.
i am using a dell demension 9200 desktop with vist home edition so if you guys could tell me any ideas of whats going on that would very helpful.

You could try running some scans for virus's ect... Also system restore may help you.

If you have not upgraded the RAM, it is quite possible that running Vista with only 1GB could be the source of your problems. Also your graphics card on this rig is likely to be a Geforce 7900GS that is at the lower end of the market.
However that would only explain the desktop background problem.
You said " many programs did not open". Could you list what did and what did not???????
