Problem crept up at my Mom's house. Both hers and her girlfriend's laptops' wireless cards stopped working for no discernible reason. They wouldn't detect any networks at all.

Mom has Verizon DSL, so it comes in through the modem. Works fine, I'm on her laptop right now typing this.

After I updated the wireless card drivers, it started showing the home network. Running a Linksys WRT150N at factory default settings (I asked her to reset it during some over-the-phone troubleshooting).

Connecting the ethernet from the modem to the router, I can connect to the network just fine, but I get no internet access. Running the troubleshooter tells me there's a connectivity issue with my modem. Seems odd, as it's working just fine providing me this direct connection.

Mom also has a Linksys WRT310N that I left behind, and I've tested both. They each give the same "No Internet Access" issue. She even has two modems, I've tried them both and they both work fine when connecting the laptop directly, but something goes wrong when the router's thrown into the mix.

Results of ipconfig/all listed below. Any thoughts?Windows IP Configuration

It seems like there might be some configuration or connectivity issues causing the wireless connectivity problem at your Mom's house. Let's break down the information you've provided and explore some troubleshooting steps:
  1. Initial Issue: Both laptops' wireless cards stopped working and wouldn't detect any networks.
  2. Steps Taken:
    • Updated wireless card drivers, which allowed detection of the home network.
    • Tested two different routers (WRT150N and WRT310N), both showing "No Internet Access" issue.
    • Tested both modems, which work fine when a laptop is connected directly.
    []Observations from ipconfig/all:
    • Wireless Network Connection (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030) is connected with an IP...
    • Wireless Network Connection (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030) is connected with an IP address (192.168.1.100) and is connected to the home network. Key Points for Troubleshooting:
      • Wireless Connectivity: The laptops can detect the home network, but there's no internet access through the routers.
      • Router Configuration: The issue seems to arise when connecting the router to the modem.
      • Modem Configuration: Modems work fine when laptops are connected directly.
      Troubleshooting Steps:
    [
    ]Router Configuration:
    • Check the router settings (WRT150N, WRT310N) for any misconfigurations.
    • Ensure the routers are properly connected to the modems and configured to connect to the internet.
    • Reset the routers and reconfigure them if needed.
    []Modem Configuration:
    • Check if the modems have any specific configurations required for connecting to routers.
    • Verify that the modems are set to bridge mode if they are being used with routers.
    [
    ]Network Firewall / Security Settings:
    • Disable any firewall or security software temporarily for testing.
    • Check if any firewall settings are blocking internet access through the routers.
    []Network Troubleshooting:
    • Use the Windows Network Troubleshooter to diagnose issues with the network connection.
    • Verify the DNS settings on the router and ensure they match with the modem's settings.
    [
    ]Testing:
    • Test with a different device (if available) to see if the issue is specific to the laptops.
    • Connect a laptop directly to the modem and verify internet access. If these steps do not resolve the issue, further investigation might be needed to identify any specific configuration issues with the routers or modems. Feel free to provide any updates or additional information for more targeted assistance.
