Initially, everything was working fine. After about a week, any of the gadgets that required an internet connection did not work. For example, I add the weather gadget (which previously worked fine) and it reads "cannot connect to service." In addition, the google calendar gadget reads "error: the download of the specified resource has failed."

I've restarted, closed the gadgets and re-added them, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else encountered any of these issues?

TIA!!!

Nugator,

Do you have UAC completely disabled by chance? Also, just like so many other 'cool', and seemingly harmless, things you can download from the internet, gadgets are available on hundreds of websites and can be created by anyone who can follow an eay set of instructions. This makes them a very high, potential source of malware or other malicous payloads. UAC alerts the user to this fact.

Just so you also know, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here Windows 7 Category . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You are welcome to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

where do i determine whether UAC is on or off? What is UAC?

UAC is User Account Control. If you click on "Start" and type "UAC" you will see the settings application available to see the option to "Change User Account Control Settings."
