I tried using my com ports but it seems it is firewalled even though it is turned off

Solution
If your COM ports are being blocked even though the firewall is turned off, there are a few things you can check to troubleshoot this issue:

Check Device Manager

  1. Device Status:
    • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows key + X and selecting "Device Manager."
    • Look for any warning symbols next to your COM ports. If there are issues, it might indicate a driver problem.

      Verify COM Port Settings

    []COM Port Settings:
    • Right-click on the Start button, and select "Device Manager."
    • Right-click on the COM port and go to "Properties." Check the port settings like baud rate, data bits, etc.

      Disable Serial Port Enumerator

    [
    ]Disable Serial Port Enumerator:
    • Some applications that use virtual COM ports can interfere with the actual COM ports. Try disabling the Serial Port Enumerator in Device Manager under "Ports."

      Check BIOS Settings

    []Check BIOS Settings:
    • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS.
    • Ensure that the COM ports are enabled in the BIOS settings.

      Update or Rollback Drivers

    [
    ]Update or Rollback Drivers:
    • In Device Manager, right-click the COM port and select "Update Driver" or "Roll Back Driver" to troubleshoot driver issues.

      Scan for Malware

    []Scan for Malware:
    • Run a malware scan in case any malicious software is interfering with your COM ports.

      Reinstall COM Ports

    [
    ]Reinstall COM Ports:
    • Uninstall the COM ports in Device Manager and restart your computer. The ports should reinstall automatically.

      Check for Software Conflicts

    []Software Conflicts:
    • Some software can block COM ports. Try disabling any third-party security software temporarily.

      Test on Another Computer

    [
    ]Test on Another Computer:
    • If possible, test the COM ports on another computer to determine if the issue is related to the ports or your system.

Use a COM Port Diagnostic Tool

  2. COM Port Diagnostic Tool:
    • Consider using diagnostic tools to test the functionality of your COM ports. By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your COM ports being firewalled even when the firewall is turned off.
