Build 7600 is the final.
Your version should expire in June 2010 with bi hourly shutdowns starting in March 2010.

Unless you have used some kind of activation hack (read illegal) your build 7100 will expire.

Type winver at a command prompt or in run to see more info.
As far as I know it is good till March of 2010. That is what I had until two weeks ago when I went ahead and upgraded to Home Premium. Windows 7 is great. I have know misgivings about updating.

Go to command prompt and run

slmgr -xpr

By the way, Microsoft allows 30 days evaluation + rearm 3 times for 30 days each time.... so if you were running the final release it would run just as long in evaluation mode as to when RC expires.

thank you sonny

thank you sonny
id like to upgrade now but in a month or 2 im going to build a more up
to date computer .
so i dont want to invest in win7 now cause ill have to do it again

To avoid interruption, it’s recommended that you and your customers rebuild test machines by using a valid Windows operating system before Windows 7 Beta and Windows 7 RC expire. Windows will automatically notify you that the expiration process is about to begin. Two weeks later, your PC will shut down every two hours. For Windows 7 Beta, the bihourly shutdowns will begin July 1, 2009. The software will expire August 1, 2009. For Windows 7 RC, the bihourly shutdowns will begin March 1, 2010. The software will expire June 1, 2010

If you decide to purchase a version of Win 7 final DO NOT upgrade the RC.
Do a clean install instead. Although it's possible but not easy, upgrading the RC to a final release will likely bring bugs and other undesirable baggage with it.

Likewise upgrading from Vista is best done with a clean install for much of the same reasons.
Planning ahead and backing up all your data will make the process of clean install a lot less painful.
Keep a list of your apps and programs as well as the saving the installers to external media.
Keep your app install CD's handy as well.
With proper planning you should be able to do a clean install in about 6-8 hours including the initial Win 7 install.
Win 7 comes with a huge catalog of hardware drivers so most of your hardware drivers will most likely be installed with Win 7.

The RC has been updated since release using Windows Update.
Windows has an update schedule common to all supported versions of Windows.
Update Tuesday is the second Tuesday of every month unless a situation arises where an immediate fix is required (like a developing security exploit).
Expect Win 7 to have more frequent updates. It is a good idea to have Automatic Updates enabled, at least the option to notify you of new updates.
