Windows 10 keeps retrying an update that fails everytime

There's an update that starts to install every time I turn my computer on, and every time it finishes, it either straight up says it failed, or it force restarts my computer and then tells me it failed.

I've looked at the update history, and there isn't a single update on there that's not "successfully installed" so idk what is actually going on.

There is an error code that pops up, though unfortunately I don't have it atm, but I'll edit this post when it comes up again.

I'm sorry if my wording wasn't clear, though ask anything that can help and then I'll clarify. Thanks!

  • Open services.msc
  • Stop the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and "Windows Updates"
  • Remove the following directory "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution"
  • Restart "Windows Updates" service
  • Go into settings and check for updates again
