I recently purchased a clone system running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and have found that all browsers are blocking web sites on the system . Originally, the message said "Site not found" even though I can easliy access them all from my XP Pro machine. I even have a problem logging into a member site with the same credentials that work on my XP Pro system. I have tried, IE 9, Firefox, Minefield, Safari and Chrome with the same results though now I am getting a message page that mentions IIS 7.5 and shows a 404.0 error code. I have turned off Windows Firewall and the problem occurred before I loaded any AV software. HELP!!!

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Connection:
    • Ensure that your network connection is stable and properly configured on your Windows 7 system.
    • Verify that you can access other websites without any issues to rule out general connectivity problems.
    []Reset TCP/IP Stack:
    • Resetting the TCP/IP stack can resolve network-related issues. Open a command prompt with administrative privileges and type the following commands:
      Code:
netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset
    [
    ]Clear Browser Cache and Cookies:
    • Clear the cache and cookies in all your browsers to eliminate any temporary data causing conflicts with website access.
    []Disable Proxy Settings:
    • Make sure there are no proxy settings configured in your browsers that could be interfering with accessing websites.
    [
    ]Check Hosts File:
    • Verify that the Windows hosts file located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts does not have any entries blocking the websites you are trying to access.
    []Check DNS Settings:
    • Ensure your DNS settings are correct. You can try changing your DNS server to Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) for testing purposes.
    [
    ]Run Network Troubleshooter:
    • Use the built-in Network troubleshooter in Windows to diagnose and fix network-related issues.
    []Update Browser and Windows:
    • Ensure your browsers are up to date with the latest versions. Also, check for Windows updates that might address compatibility or security issues.
    [
    ]Run Antivirus and Malware Scans:
    • Although you mentioned the issue occurred before installing any antivirus software, it's always good to run a scan to rule out malware causing the problem.
  2. Check for Software Conflicts:
    • If the issue persists, consider any new software installed that could be conflicting with network settings.

      Additional Information:

    • Internet Information Services (IIS) Error Code 404.0:
    • This error indicates that the server has not found anything matching the requested URL.
Following these steps should help diagnose and potentially resolve the issues you are facing with website access on your Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system. If the problem persists, further investigation might be needed to identify the root cause. Let me know if you need assistance with any of these steps or if you have any other questions.
