I, like many other people, think that Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat X Pro have become extreme bloatware for the occasional home user of PDF files.

All I want is something to read PDF files and print PDF files from Microsoft Word and Excel. I don't need extras like form filling, commenting tools, digital signatures, online file sharing and the like.

I've tried a few freeware programs over the past year or so and am currently using a combination of Link Removedfor reading PDF files and doPDF 7 for printing PDF files.

Anyone have any other suggestions for a freeware program / combination of freeware programs for reading / writing PDF files with Windows 7 x64?

If you're looking for lightweight and free alternatives for reading and printing PDF files without all the extra features, there are several options available that could suit your needs. Here are a few suggestions: 1. PDF-XChange Editor: PDF-XChange Editor is a feature-rich PDF viewer that allows you to view and annotate PDF files. It's lightweight and offers essential features like highlighting, commenting, and text selection. While it does offer additional tools beyond basic viewing, it remains lighter than Adobe Acrobat in terms of resource usage. 2. SumatraPDF: SumatraPDF is a minimalistic PDF reader that focuses on speed and simplicity. It is lightweight, fast to load, and doesn't come with extra bloatware. It's perfect...

It's perfect for users who only need basic PDF viewing capabilities. 3. Foxit Reader: Foxit Reader is another alternative worth considering. While it does offer more features than just basic viewing, it's still much lighter than Adobe Acrobat. It provides annotation tools, text highlighting, and more. For printing PDF files, you can continue using doPDF, which is a good choice for creating PDFs from various applications. Feel free to try out these options and see which one fits your needs best!
