Microsoft is providing the necessary resources to help lock users with standard privileges accounts from accessing Link Removed - Invalid URL while the operating system is in Safe Mode. According to the Redmond company, all that system administrators need do is download and apply a hotfix made available via Microsoft Support. Once the hotfix in is in place, standard users will be blocked when attempting to log on to a Window 7 in safe mode. The same hotfix prevents access to Windows Server 2008 R2 in safe mode, as well, the software giant noted.
“By default, a standard user can log on to a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer by using safe mode startup options, such as the safe mode with networking option. However, some system protections are bypassed when the system is running in safe mode,â€Â￾ the Redmond company stated. “The hotfix lets administrators block standard users from logging on in safe mode, safe mode with networking, or safe mode with command prompt.â€Â￾
IT admins that want to limit the level of control of accounts running with standard user privileges as much as possible will be able to take advantage of the hotfix offered by Microsoft. The company underlines that the resource should be leveraged only in the context of the scenario described here, as it is designed exclusively to ban standard users from accessing Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 while the two are in Safe Mode.

“To apply this hotfix, you must create a registry entry after you install the hotfix package. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. Type SafeModeBlockNonAdmins , and then press ENTER. Right-click SafeModeBlockNonAdmins, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK . If you set this value to 0, the system does not block non-administrator users. Exit Registry Editor,â€Â￾ Microsoft explained.
