I had just done a critical update a few nights ago, and after rebooting my pc to finish installing, my reboot now takes 10-15 minutes. When the pc comes on and says ACER is where it sits the longest, and i dont think i can enter bios or change boot devices either, ive pressed and pressed the keys. I tried to system restore to a week or so back, no avail, also did a clean install of windows 7 ultimate, and still doing the same thing. Any ideas?

Its a ACER E380
BIOS: Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
4 GB of ram
320 GB Hard Drive
Radeon HD 3650 Video Card
Norton Internet Security Suite
Windows 7 Ultimate
I dont have alot of software at the time installed, just mozilla firefox, thunderbird and a media player.

Once the computer is booted and at desktop there is no problems whatsoever tho.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating situation with your Acer E380 PC taking an unusually long time to boot up after a recent critical update. Let's troubleshoot this issue step by step:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. BIOS Access Difficulty:
    • Since you're having trouble entering the BIOS, try pressing the keys repeatedly during startup. For ACER systems, typical keys for BIOS access are F2, F10, or Del. Make sure to press the key before the ACER screen appears.
    []Check BIOS Settings:
    • Once you access the BIOS, ensure that the boot order is correct. The hard drive should be set as the first boot device.

    ]Hardware Check:
    • Given the age of your PC, it's worth checking the hard drive health and the overall system temperature to rule out any hardware issues causing the delay.
    []Safe Mode Boot:
    • Try booting the PC in Safe Mode to see if it loads faster. If it does, the issue could be related to a driver or software conflict.
    [
    ]Driver Updates:
    • Check for any pending driver updates, especially for the motherboard, chipset, and graphics card.
    []Startup Programs:
    • Review the list of startup programs and disable unnecessary ones to potentially speed up the boot process.
    [
    ]System File Check:
    • Run a System File Check (SFC) to scan and repair corrupt system files that might be causing the long boot time.
    []Event Viewer Analysis:
    • Check the Event Viewer logs for any error messages or warnings that could provide insight into the boot delay.
    [
    ]Disable Fast Startup:
    • In Windows 7, disabling the Fast Startup feature might help resolve boot issues. This can be done in the Power Options settings.
  2. Update Windows:
    • Ensure that Windows 7 is fully up to date with all available updates. It's possible that a pending update may be causing the slow boot.

      Further Suggestions:

      • Despite the clean Windows 7 Ultimate install, if the issue persists, it's likely related to either a hardware problem or an intricate software conflict.
      • Considering your PC's age, hardware components like the hard drive or memory may have deteriorated, impacting boot times.
      • If no software fixes the issue, seeking professional assistance for a thorough hardware inspection might be necessary to identify the root cause of the slow boot.
Try these steps and let me know if any of them help improve your PC's boot time.
