I noticed an annoying quirk in the WMP that came with Windows 7. It does not recognize or store all of my music files, including the CD files that I ripped. When I revert back to my Windows Vista partition, ALL of the music files are there and intact! What the blank is going on?

NExt, in Vista's WMP, there is a progress bar when you rip a CD -- very helpful in knowing it's working. In Windows 7's WMP, there is no such thing. You're kinda guessing and hoping it's doing the work! Then when you switch back to the library to see if the files are there, the CD that I ripped will have four different folders, 2 songs in one, three songs in the other, and four in the other folder. Plus they are classified as Unknown artist, unknown album. So I had to retype all of the song titles, artist, etc. In Vista, I never encountered this problem.

Does anyone have ideas? Does Microsoft know of this?

Solution
It seems like you are experiencing some issues with Windows Media Player (WMP) on Windows 7 compared to Windows Vista. These problems include: 1. Recognition of Music Files: Windows 7 WMP does not recognize or store all of your music files, especially the CD files you ripped, while Windows Vista WMP handles them properly. 2. Progress Bar During CD Ripping: Windows 7 WMP lacks a progress bar during CD ripping, making it difficult to know if the process is ongoing. In contrast, Windows Vista WMP provides a progress bar for CD ripping. 3. Disorganized Music Files: After ripping a CD on Windows 7 WMP, the files are stored in multiple folders with incorrect metadata (Unknown artist, unknown album), requiring manual...

Disorganized Music Files: After ripping a CD on Windows 7 WMP, the files are stored in multiple folders with incorrect metadata (Unknown artist, unknown album), requiring manual correction of song titles, artists, etc. This issue was not encountered in Windows Vista WMP. To address these issues, you can try the following troubleshooting steps: 1. Update Windows Media Player: Ensure that you have the latest updates for Windows 7 installed. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for media player issues. 2. Rebuild the Windows Media Player Library: Rebuilding the library can help resolve issues with file recognition. To do this: - Open WMP. - Go to the "Organize" menu. - Select "Manage Libraries" and then "Music." - Click on "Add" and select the folder(s) where your music is stored. This will add them to the library. 3. Check File Metadata: Ensure that your music files have correct metadata (song titles, artist names, album information) embedded in them. Use a tool like MP3Tag to edit and correct metadata if needed. 4. Use Another Media Player: If the issues persist, consider using alternative media players like VLC Media Player or Winamp to see if the problem is specific to WMP. If these steps do not resolve the issues, you can consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. It's also worth checking online forums and discussions to see if other users have encountered similar problems with Windows 7 WMP.
