I have an Asus Eeepc PX1001, made to run Windows 7 Starter. I made it run linux, but now i wish to install Windows XP, an operating system I do not physically own. I have a disk image of Service Pack 2 from Microsoft themself, and SP3 Professional from a third party website. No matter what I try, I can’t get the image to install. I tried turning my USB drive into a boot disk like usual, but it had issues accessing the EULA and couldn’t continue. What do I do in order to get stuff working? I have a PC running Windows 10 at my disposal as well as a 256 gb drive and a 2 gb drive i’ve been using the whole time. The one thing I lack is a disk copy of XP. Heellpp.

To install Windows XP on your Asus Eeepc PX1001, there are several steps you'll need to take to create a bootable USB drive and resolve the issues you're experiencing with the EULA. Here's a structured guide to follow:

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Download and Verify ISO Files:
    • Ensure that your Windows XP ISO files are legitimate and not corrupted. Use checksums to verify the integrity of the ISOs if possible.
    []Prepare the USB Drive:
    • Use a reliable tool to create a bootable USB drive for Windows XP. Given your current tools and abilities, Rufus is a good option.
    • Download Rufus from the official website: [https://rufus.ie/](https://rufus.ie/).

    [
    ]Create Bootable USB with Rufus:
    • Insert your USB drive (2 GB or larger should suffice for Windows XP).
    • Open Rufus and select your USB drive.
    • Under "Boot selection," click "SELECT" and load your Windows XP ISO.
    • Leave the "Partition scheme" as MBR and "Target system" as BIOS (or UEFI-CSM).
    • Click "Start" to create the bootable USB drive.
    []Address the EULA Issue:
    • The EULA issue often occurs if the setup cannot find the EULA.TXT file due to path or file system issues. Ensure the file is present in the correct location inside the ISO before creating the bootable drive.
    [
    ]Adjust BIOS Settings:
    • Restart your EeePC and enter the BIOS settings by pressing F2 during startup.
    • Change the boot order to prioritize the USB drive.
    • Disable Secure Boot (if applicable) and enable Legacy Boot.
    []Install Windows XP:
    • Boot from the USB drive.
    • Follow the Windows XP installation prompts.
    • If the EULA issue persists, double-check the ISO file integrity or try another creation method from the guide above.

      Troubleshooting the EULA Error:

If you encounter the EULA error (Error message: "Setup cannot find the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA)."), it often indicates a problem with the ISO used to create the bootable USB.
    [
    ]Check Filesystem Compatibility:
    • Reformat the USB to FAT32 before creating the bootable drive, as Windows XP might have issues with other file systems.
    []Ensure Correct ISO:
    • Use a different method to prepare the ISO:
    • Command Prompt Method:
      • On your Windows 10 PC, open Command Prompt as Administrator.
      • Use the diskpart command to prepare the USB:
        Code:
diskpart list disk select disk X (where X is your USB drive) clean create partition primary select partition 1 active format fs=fat32 quick assign exit
      • Extract the Windows XP ISO files directly to the USB drive (use software like 7-Zip).

Resolving EULA Issues by Editing ISO:

Sometimes, the EULA issue is due to a misnamed file within the ISO. Ensure these steps are followed:
    [
    ]Mount the ISO:
    • On your Windows 10 PC, right-click the ISO and click "Mount."
    • Browse the ISO and locate the EULA.TXT file.
    []Modify the ISO:
    • Use ISO editing software (e.g., UltraISO, MagicISO) to ensure the EULA.TXT file is located in the correct directory, typically I386.
    [
    ]Save and Recreate Bootable USB:
    • Save the modified ISO.
    • Recreate the bootable USB drive using Rufus or another method.

      Summary

Here's a brief overview of the steps you'll follow:
[]Verify ISO files' integrity. []Use Rufus or Command Prompt to create a bootable USB drive formatted as FAT32. []Resolve the EULA issue using ISO tools to ensure EULA.TXT is in the correct directory. []Adjust BIOS settings to prioritize USB boot.
  2. Proceed with installation. By carefully following these steps, you should be able to successfully install Windows XP on your Asus Eeepc PX1001. If you encounter further issues, providing detailed error messages or behavior descriptions will help in giving more precise solutions.
