I want to play .flv files in Windows Media Player, consistently. I have PlayFLV, the only plugin I'm aware of that enables WMP to play .flv - but it only works once or twice before WMP fails to recognise them again. Does anyone have an idea about what to do?

P.S. I would like to add these .flv files to my collection in an easily accessible way. I can use VLC player to play .flv files - but that sucks because I can't use my WMC remote to control playback and it's ugly. Thanks...

Solution
To consistently play .flv files in Windows Media Player (WMP), without encountering issues where WMP fails to recognize them, you might need to try a different approach. Here are some suggestions to help you achieve this:

Method 1: Using DirectShow Filters

  1. DirectShow Filters: You can install DirectShow filters that support the .flv format, which should enable WMP to play these files seamlessly.

Method 2: Converting .flv Files

  1. File Conversion: Convert your .flv files to a format that is natively supported by WMP, such as .mp4 or .avi. Tools like HandBrake or FFmpeg can help with this conversion process.

  2. Media Center Software: Consider using alternative media center software that natively supports .flv files while providing a user-friendly interface compatible with your WMC remote.

    Method 4: Media Libraries

  3. Media Libraries: Organize your .flv files in a media library supported by WMP. This can help you access and manage your collection more efficiently.

    Method 5: Third-Party Media Players

  4. Third-Party Media Players: Another option is to explore other third-party media players that support .flv files and are more compatible with your remote control preferences.

    Conclusion

Given the limitations of Windows Media Player for playing .flv files consistently, exploring alternatives like DirectShow filters, file conversion, or alternative media players might provide a more stable solution for playing and managing your .flv files effectively.
