here is a short guide about upgrading windows XP to 7:
- backup (you would most likely not need it but its a good percussion)
- check compatibility (by downloading windows 7 upgrade advisor)
- gather all of your cd's (files will be transfered how ever not programs)
- if your PC is compatible insert windows 7 cd
- when it promts you for installation options click custom (clicking upgrade will fail the installation)
- install windows 7 on your XP drive and then go to your C drive and you should see a windows.old folder from there you could transfer all your files to its corresponding folder
- reinstall all your software (if you use freeware you might as well get the latest version)
