Since installing Windows 7 on my Lenovo notepad I have had no sound. I get the sound bars jumping in the volume controls and every which way I check it says I have the most up to date driver and it's working properly. It's a Realtek sound High Definition sound device. I tried the the most up to date driver (Vista_R7_226.exe) but the update driver facility wasn't interested.
Any ideas?

Ronnie, The issue you're facing with no sound on your Lenovo notepad after installing Windows 7 might be related to driver compatibility or system settings. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this problem:
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Check Volume Settings:
- Ensure that the volume is not muted or set too low. Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Open Volume Mixer" to check individual volume levels.
- Go to the Device Manager (Right-click on Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager) and locate the Realtek High Definition Audio device. Right-click on it, select "Update Driver Software," and choose the option to browse your computer for driver software. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the Vista_R7_226.exe driver and install it manually.
- Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar, select "Playback devices," and ensure that the correct device (Realtek High Definition Audio) is set as the default playback device.
- Type "Troubleshoot" in the Windows search bar, select "Troubleshooting," and then click on "Troubleshoot audio playback." Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix audio playback issues.
- If the driver update doesn't work, try installing the driver in compatibility mode. Right-click on the driver setup file (Vista_R7_226.exe), select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for," and select Windows Vista. Then, run the setup again.
- Sometimes, Windows Update can provide driver updates. Check for any pending updates by going to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update.
- Ensure that the audio settings in BIOS are not disabled. Access the BIOS during startup (usually by pressing F2 or DEL) and check the integrated peripherals section for audio settings.
- External Speakers or Headphones:
- Test your audio with external speakers or headphones to verify if the issue is with the internal speakers.
Suggested Driver Update:
- You mentioned using the Vista_R7_226.exe driver. If this driver is not working, you can try downloading the latest driver directly from the Realtek website or Lenovo's support page for your specific model. After trying these steps, restart your system and check if the sound issue is resolved. Let me know if you encounter any difficulties during this process.
