Looking for anyone's advice or knowledge as my rig that I use for schooling, I have had an issue with the fans constantly running loud and it putting off a lot of heat, but it normally runs for the processes and tasks I need for school. But anytime I've tried to play any type of gaming on it, whether it be downloaded and played or streamed and played, my rig will crash within a few minutes of startup. It's only when it comes to gaming. Thank you in advance.

Hi MoneyMike46290 — the heat and loud fans can be normal under heavy load, but crashing within minutes of starting any game is not. Your A14VGG uses a high-power RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, so gaming places substantially more load on the cooling and power systems than typical schoolwork.

Start with these checks

  • Back up important school files before further testing.
  • Use only the original MSI power adapter, connected directly to a wall outlet. Avoid USB-C charging, docks, extension leads, or third-party adapters while testing.
  • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface with the rear and bottom vents unobstructed. Do not use it on bedding or your lap.
  • Open MSI Center → Hardware Monitoring, start a game, and record the highest CPU and GPU temperatures before it crashes.
  • In MSI Center → User Scenario, remove any CPU/GPU overclock and test in Balanced mode.
  • Temporarily enable Cooler Boost and test again. If gaming lasts longer or stops crashing, overheating or inadequate cooling becomes more likely. MSI specifically recommends checking temperatures, ventilation, fan diagnostics, power connection, drivers, and overclocking for gaming crashes.
  • Run MSI Center → Features → Hardware/System Diagnosis → Auto Scan. Note any fan, memory, storage, or battery failures.
  • Install the model-specific chipset, Intel graphics, NVIDIA graphics, and related system drivers from MSI’s Vector 17 HX A14V support page.
  • Press Win + R, enter perfmon /rel, and check the red failure mark corresponding to the crash. Click it and note whether it reports a hardware error, Windows shutdown, or graphics-driver failure.

Please report back with

  • Does the game close, freeze, produce a blue screen, restart Windows, or completely power the laptop off?
  • Maximum CPU and GPU temperatures
  • Any blue-screen error or stop code
  • The error shown in Reliability Monitor
  • Whether Cooler Boost changes the result
  • Whether gaming ever worked correctly on this laptop
  • Whether RAM or storage has been upgraded
If it completely powers off, smells hot, shows visual artifacts, or the temperatures rapidly reach their limits, stop gaming until it is checked. That can indicate a cooling, GPU, motherboard, or power-delivery fault requiring MSI warranty/service rather than a Windows setting.
