
Schneider Electric’s new AMD Helios reference design is a practical facility blueprint for operators planning 246 kW-per-rack AI deployments, but it is not a turnkey “AI factory” product or evidence that a 10.4 MW site can be deployed without substantial local engineering. The most useful part of Reference Design 121 is its attempt to connect AMD’s forthcoming MI455X-based Helios rack with the power, liquid-cooling, residual-air-cooling, redundancy, and monitoring systems that must surround it.
There is also a date problem in the version of the announcement now circulating. It carries a Sydney dateline of August 13, 2026, while Schneider Electric’s primary newsroom post is dated July 23, 2026, from San Francisco, and the underlying Reference Design 121 document is dated July 14, 2026. This is a delayed regional redistribution of a July release, not a new August product launch.
The distinction is worth making because AMD Helios itself is a reference design, too. AMD says it is providing the rack-scale architecture to OEM and ODM partners rather than selling a finished Helios rack directly. Schneider’s work therefore adds a second layer of design validation: how a site operator could house and operate partner-built Helios systems at unusually high density.
